Fr Frank Brennan’s Homily: 4th Sunday of Easter 2025

As pope, he has chosen the name Leo. This is the surest sign that he is a safe pair of hands acceptable to all sides in the ecclesiastical culture wars, while being committed to the vision of Pope Francis. He has taken the name after the great pope Leo XIII who wrote what Pope John Paul II called the ‘immortal document’: Rerum Novarum. At the end of the nineteenth century, Leo XIII was concerned about the rights of workers. [...]

Leo XIV is the new Pope

"Peace be with all of you!" - the first words of Pope Leo XIV. The Conclave has elected Robert Francis Cardinal Prevost as the 267th Bishop of Rome. The new pope was announced to the waiting crowds by Cardinal Protodeacon Dominique Mamberti. [...]

‘The synodal legacy of Francis will leave a lasting mark on the Catholic Church’

Pope Francis, who died April 21, brought synodality back to the heart of the church. He saw in it a way to make each believer participate in the mission of the church. For theologian Arnaud Join-Lambert, this vision can inspire other institutions faced with participation challenges. [...]
